Ata Rangi is the Maori translation of 'New Beginning' or 'Dawn Sky'. This refers to the 5 hectares that Clive Paton purchased in 1980. He was among the pioneers to establish a vineyard in this remote region of New Zealand with its remarkable terroir.
This Pinot Noir comes from a specific plot: "McCrone", located just across the road from the original Ata Rangi plots. Planted in 2001, this vineyard benefits from a different, warmer terroir, more limestone. This adds a spicy character, reminiscent of northern Rhône syrahs.
This bottle of Ata Rangi Mc Crone 2014 is at its peak today. No need to decant before tasting.
